Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa has been a favorite of world leaders since U.S. President Ronald Reagan became one of its first guests.
Today, owned by the same entity as Dorchester Collection, a holding for the Sultan of Brunei, the resort enjoyed a major renovation in 2011 covering all guest rooms and suites. Public areas were also renewed and a new lagoon pool was installed, all keeping with its original charm that combines a cross of colonial Bali and tropical palace.
Adjacent to Bali’s two main conference facilities, the resort often captures CEOs, VIPs and Heads of State as guests. Its garden setting of buildings spaced out in a way that wouldn’t make financial sense for most new build hotels provides a variety of different venues for events. “You can have an incentive here and for four nights have four totally different experiences in four totally unique locations,” says Urs Klee, the General Manager and a veteran of the Indonesia hotel scene.
Both top suites at the hotel are connected to the main building providing direct access to all facilities, but also have their own separate, private driveways and entrances. The nearly 7,000 square feet two-bedroom Royal Residence is where the Sultan of Brunei stays when he visits his hotel. Set on two levels it includes a 200 feet long swimming pool.
The 2011 renovation added two indoor/outdoor treatment rooms to the spa, and there is now a series of spa treatments for kids on offer, perfect for apprentices to the private jet lifestyle.
Director of Food and Beverage Dermot Birchall says a highlight of the property is Raja’s Balinese Restaurant, what he calls an experience of Royal Balinese dining, featuring both inside and outdoors seating, plus a private dining room seating up to 12 people.
