The Four Seasons Sayan in Ubud has long had its shelves filled with awards from media around the world, but for those who already love this small property with 42 villas and 18 suites there is reason to come back. A significant renovation of all the villas was completed in December, and in June the suites came back on line after being gussied up.
Nineteen year Four Seasons veteran Uday Rao came aboard as General Manager a bit over a year ago, a post he says he dreamed of since visiting as a guest a decade earlier. The renovation included all new furniture, flooring, fixtures and fittings. The style Rau says is “contemporary with a sense of place.”
The resort is owned by the Ong family of Singapore. They also own Jimbaran Bay, several other Four Seasons, the Singapore Grand Prix and many other businesses. Ranked on Forbes rich list, their investment in keeping the property pristine clearly shows. The various accommodations, spa with indoor/outdoor treatment rooms and public space is set on 21 acres alongside a river where guests can partake in kayaking or just being entertained by others who do.
With the power of Four Seasons behind it, the resort regularly gets guests from the traditional Europe and U.S. markets, but also sees a steady stream of elite travelers from Latin America. The large three bedroom duplex Royal Villa offers an artist’s dream view of the river, terraced lawns, a large covered dining area and full outdoor kitchen. There are secluded spots to have a romantic dinner or read a book, or perhaps host a party for friends and family.
While its meeting facilities are limited the resort is a favorite destination for small incentives. That said, its layout of villas with private pools and sun areas means the public areas were virtually deserted during my visit, despite a nearly full house.
