Elite Traveler has selected a few unique experiences to enjoy – in and out of Warsaw.
MASURIAN LAKE DISTRICT
Located in the northeast of Poland, a three hour drive or just a short helicopter ride from Warsaw, this stunning ’land of a thousand lakes’ is a potential candidate for listing in the New7Wonders of Nature.
Created by glaciers, the lakes form an extensive system of waterways interconnected by rivers and canals, making it a popular summer destination for tourists and Poles. The waterways offer plenty of activities for the adventure-lover such as yachting, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, and even international boat racing events. Situated among primeval forests, the location is also ideal for hikers, bikers and horse-riders; but if you are none of the above, the fresh air, natural beauty and scenic nearby towns are an attractive alternative. As a former province of East Prussia, now inhabited by Germans, Poles and Lithuanians, the’Masurian’ identity of the surrounding towns and restaurants is truly unique, and the culinary offerings at the Black Swan Inn (Gospoda pod Czarnym Łabędziem) are particularly worth experiencing. The Inn offers 17 guest bedrooms and has an interesting museum, should you wish to linger longer.

WARSAW FILM FESTIVAL
OCTOBER 2012
Now in its 26th year, the Warsaw Film Festival (WFF) is one of the most accredited international showcases for cinema talent.
True to its origins, the festival places particular emphasis on native Polish films, as well as wider Eastern European cinema, and is therefore a great opportunity for international visitors to witness established as well as up-and-coming directors and actors. In fact, its accompanying CentEast Market forum has been dubbed by The Hollywood Reporter as the ‘go-to-event‘. Additionally, audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy movies from America, Asia, Iran and Latin America – all of which are presented before they have won awards in any other festivals.
