Though wildlife viewing in and around Jackson Hole, Wyoming has always been on offer at the upscale and rustically elegant Spring Creek Ranch, the resort recently launched a new winter wildlife safari into Yellowstone National Park—an add-on that coincides nicely with the resort’s 30th anniversary.
Led by Spring Creek Ranch’s on-site naturalist, Kurt Johnson (who’s written a newly released field guide to Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks), the safari offers the rare and exclusive chance to view winter wildlife, such as bison, moose, and bald eagles, from the comfort of a heavy-duty snow coach.
And since Yellowstone is closed to cars during the winter, guests can avoid the usual park crowds. Before making the trip back to Jackson Hole, overnight at Old Faithful Snow Lodge, situated adjacent to must-see Old Faithful and one of only two hotels in the park open during the winter.
Besides winter safaris, the 1,000-acre ranch offers a range of activities including skiing, sleigh riding, dog sledding, and more. Or guests can simply relax by their
in-room stone fireplaces and enjoy the spectacular views of the Teton Mountains. Safari rates start at $1,450 per person for double occupancy.
