Posh Pets in Tow

By Chris Boyle

Ultimutt pleasure

Traveling can be stressful, even for the four-legged. Those checking into The Peninsula Chicago can unwind with a Rover Relaxation Massage, a 30-minute, $75 in-room treatment designed to improve circulation, reduce stress, and increase flexibility.

Fine felines and coddled canines can also dine on tasty entrees from the Pet Menu, including Spaniel Spinach Salad, Beagle Burger, and Siamese Salmon Filet. A welcome amenity, size-appropriate bed, and bowls are provided.

Pets up to 20 pounds can stay on the “pet floor” for no additional charge, and can hang out with their owners on the patio of Pierrot Gourmet, a European-style café.

Pillow talk

Pampered pets are even more comfortable after the renovations at Cypress Inn, co-owned by actress Doris Day and located in Hollywood hideaway Carmel-by-the-Sea.

The 1929 historic landmark pioneered California’s pet-friendly hotel movement in the mid-1980s and has seen everything from parrots to pot-bellied pigs check in. These days, Fifi can relax on new, custom-designed dog blankets that complement the glam-meets-Morocco interiors.

A new Culinary Canine menu featuring Chowhound Chicken, Buster Burger, and Muttloaf is available during the daily Yappy Hour in Terry’s Lounge.

Tea time

On Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m., coddled canines can join their owners for afternoon tea in the Loggia Lounge at the Fairmont Washington, DC Georgetown, overlooking the serene courtyard garden.

Pets can feast on house-made turkey and rolled oat pâté on toast, vegetable and whole grain meatballs, and carrot and peanut butter cupcakes with organic rice milk while their people enjoy crumpets, quiche, smoked salmon, and scones.

Pets get their wings

Charter operator JetSuite recently doubled its fleet of Embraer and Citation jets and expanded to the Northeast. It has also seen a boost in pawsengers.

“Six percent of our 2013 trips to date have included a non-board pet,” says CEO Alex Wilcox. “This has gone up from less than two percent last year. Man’s best friend always has a seat on JetSuite!”

Pets fly cageless (and free) when with their guardians, as long as someone is chartering the plane.
