Edelweiss is the well-known mountain flower from Switzerland. Johannes Gutenberg invented mechanical movable type printing. Edelberg is the Zug-based writing instrument company founded by Carlos and Samuel Naldi, who have long been known for creating the decorative cases for top watch brands.
The sleek pens have gained a following with elite travelers in Europe, Russia and the Middle East, but have now come to America as a result of a distribution agreement with Boston-based Esper Luxury.
Edelberg “bridges Swiss beauty with the art of writing and innovation,” says Esper Managing Director Christopher Daaboul who is introducing the modern, sophisticated pens to the trade during the Swiss Watch by JCK show in Las Vegas.

The Sloop is made from the same carbon fiber as found on boats and the same stainless steel used by fine watches. Thirteen mechanical components power a retractable clip that means you can never put the pen in your pocket unless the ink source is closed.

Tachys is a more traditional screw top with a titanium nib that means less breakage, bending, higher durability and better feel. Prices start at $650 and range to $2,600 for hand painted limited editions. Already Edelberg is available at Paradise Pen in Detroit and Short Hills, NJ locations, Lenox Jewelers in Fairfield County, CT, and Medawar Fine Jewelry in Palos Verdes. Online style site ManoftheWorld.com also sells the pens and will feature them in a store being opened later this year in New York’s Tribeca.
