Wallywhy150 Debuts at the Cannes Yachting Festival

A sprawling sundeck spans almost the entire length of the vessel.

By Grace Taylor

A new addition to the Wally family, the wallywhy150, made her international debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival. Measuring at sub-80ft, this yacht seeks to deliver the comfort, space and luxury of a much larger vessel.

Offering ceiling heights taller than those in a 200-ft superyacht, the innovative use of its volume to offer expansive, open-plan living sets the wallywhy150 apart from others in its class.

“We didn’t see the smaller volume as a compromise,” says Stefano de Vivo, managing director at Wally, “but rather a challenge and a new way to innovate – and at 150 gross tonnes, the wallywhy150 is actually a true ‘spaceship’, pushing into new frontiers for a sub-24-meter yacht.”

The wallywhy150 boasts open contemporary living spaces that seamlessly extend towards the vast open ocean. The innovative design of the main deck eliminates the need for stairs between indoor and outdoor areas, offering direct entry from the cockpit to the sea and creating a harmonious connection between the interior and the aquatic world outside.

Wraparound windows envelop the yacht’s hull and superstructure, filling the interior with an airy, expansive ambiance. Floor-to-ceiling windows ensure that breathtaking sea views follow you throughout the yacht.

Designed with the owner’s cabin in the bow of the boat, an extensive use of glass grants 270-ft panoramic ocean views from the comfort of the bedroom.

“The structure has to be very well thought out,” says De Vivo, “because basically it’s a glass cage, but you also have to consider the piping and cable runs, air-conditioning ducting and other technical elements that have to be incorporated.

“There’s a lot of planning and engineering design that goes into it, and the reality is also that we are using glass of a thickness you would typically find on a 50- or 60-meter (164ft-200ft) yacht, which confers exceptional strength to the structure. That is not typical for a sub-24-meter boat.”

Outdoor living is at the heart of the yacht’s design, with a sprawling sundeck that spans almost the entire length of the vessel. Offering space to sunbathe, socialize and relax under the shade, the expanse of this exterior space remains unparalleled by other boats of this size.

Moreover, the sizable aft deck, featuring a hydraulic multipurpose ladder and a rising platform, offers extensive opportunity. Designed to accommodate a 12-fttender, it can also be used for water toys, or serve as a submerged swimming platform.

Flexibility has been incorporated throughout the boat, with options for an open-plan galley and interchangeable dining and saloon areas.

“There are plans to do a few funky configurations to please the different uses of the yacht that different owners will have,” says De Vivo. “Some of our clients will use it as a family boat, some will use it as a dayboat and others will use it as a chase boat. That’s kind of the point – we can provide an exceptional platform and then let people’s imaginations run wild.”
