From a tiny sapphire Fabergé mouse once owned by Bill and Kathryn Crosby to the only FP Journe watch not designed by François-Paul Journe himself, this winter’s auction landscape promises to be exciting. We bring you the most impressive upcoming lots from the world’s leading houses.
FP Journe one-of-one Francis Ford Coppola watch
Independent watchmaker François-Paul Journe has had a hand in designing every watch that bears his name since he founded his eponymous brand in 1999. Except, ironically enough, this one, which was dreamed up by Francis Ford Coppola while musing whether a human hand has ever been used to tell the time. From its conception, it took nearly a decade to create, finally being completed in 2021. The unique piece, with platinum case, alligator strap and 18K gold clasp, is available at Phillips’ New York Watch Auction.

Fabergé lion and mouse, from the private collection of Bing and Kathryn Crosby

Sotheby’s Swinging on a Star auction brings the lives of Bing and Kathryn Crosby into the public sphere once more. The sale — which is consigned by the couple’s children — intersects music, fashion, art and cinema and includes memorabilia relating to specific periods of the Crosby’s relationship, hinting at their interests beyond the big screen. Included is this rare pair of Fabergé models: a proud lion carved in quartz and a minute sapphire mouse (both circa. 1900). Sold separately (or together, if you’re lucky), the pair is said to represent the couple.

Draft of the US Constitution, We the People: America at 250

Part of a cross-category auction honoring America’s landmark birthday, in January Christie’s will present one of 12 copies of the second printing of the US constitution, marking a generational chance to own a piece of the nation’s history. Printed while the constitution was still being drafted, it is the first edition to include the famed ‘We the People’ verbiage. This rare copy also features handwritten notes by founding father Rufus King, and is the only version in public hands.

Domaine Faiveley Musigny 1908

Part of a wider sale of rare specimens from the illustrious Domaine Faiveley cellars taking place this November, the Musigny 1908 is not something that comes up every day. Made from grapes harvested from one of the two famed Chambolle-Musigny Grand Cru vineyards, it was produced under Joseph Faiveley, son of the founder Pierre, making it a little piece of Burgundy history. At more than 115 years old, this is not one for the cellar — it’s a celebration bottle to be enjoyed right now.
Reserve from (approx.) $9,995 to $12,660, christies.com
