Amanpuri Celebrates 30 Years with Resort Transformation

Marking its 30th anniversary this year, Amanpuri — the first Aman resort to be built, coming onto the scene in 1998 — has undergone a major renovation. Over the past few months, the Thai resort has seen an enhancement of its existing areas, such as the Aman Spa, and the addition of a wealth of new facilities including suspended swimming pools for six of the guest Pavilions, new water sports equipment, a beach bar and activity space for all ages.

Reflecting the meaning behind its name (place of peace) and serene Aman style, Amanpuri’s Thai design, which was inspired by Thailand’s ancient capital Ayutthaya, blends harmoniously into its verdant surroundings on the west coast of Phuket. On a sheltered headland overlooking the Andaman Sea, 40 Thai-style pavilions and 40 private villas sit amid swaying palms and a collection of private pools.

This tranquil setting naturally aligns with the resort’s wellness offering, so since the launch of Aman Wellness in 2016 Amanpuri has led the resort group’s global initiative of offering Individual Wellness Immersions, Group Retreat Experiences and wellness menus by a series of vegan chefs. Furthering this focus on well-being, the recent renovation included major enhancements to the Aman Spa with new facilities and refurnished treatment rooms.

The hillside spa now has 12 treatment suites – six of which are brand new and double the original size. Each one has a treatment room, bathing area, steam room, dressing room and outdoor relaxation pavilion. Elsewhere in the spa, hydrotherapy areas with steam rooms have been added to the space, along with traditional saunas and infrared saunas, Jacuzzis and cold plunge pools, and a finishing salon for nails and hair. The fitness center sits at the top of the hill, providing the glass-walled gym, pilates studio, Muay Thai studio, yoga pavilions and juice bar with the vantage point’s sea views.

In line with the spas enhancement, the resort’s three Individual Wellness Immersions—Detox and Cleansing, Mindfulness and Stress, and Weight Management and Transformation—have been developed to incorporate the new facilities too.

Of course, the resort’s enhancement hasn’t just been about elevating its wellness program; the resort has also expanded its activity offering. A new children’s Eco-Discover Club, which now sits adjacent to the Beach Club, comes with its own nature museum and craft center, while the Hot Spot brings together sport, music and digital culture with an outdoor bouldering climbing wall, skateboarding half-pipe, The Sound Box recording studio, GoPro editing counter and movie screening room. Additional water sports equipment has also been brought in, adding to the collection of Hobie Cats, jet skis, Seabobs and speedboats for waterskiing.

After coming in from a session on the water, you can now relax at the new Straw Hat Beach Bar, and the new 14-seat dining spot, Magnum Room, is soon to be unveiled.
