Forget the traditional beige trench coat. This season, designers transform the utilitarian garment into a surprising statement piece. Erdem Moralioglu brought his trademark femininity and embroidery to a plaid trench. A nature scene blossoming with flowers and animals winds its way around the base of the coat, and there’s embroidery on the arm as well. A corset-like belt unexpectedly finishes off the look.
Also unexpected is Giambattista Valli’s choice of soft pink on his long trench. Thick metallic stitching and silver buttons toughen up the delicate hue, which will surely stand out from the crowd on a rainy day. We think it’s so elegant it could double as an evening coat.
