The UK’s first female chef to obtain three Michelin stars, Clare Smyth is a culinary force to be reckoned with.
Head Chef at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, she was recently honored with an MBE by the Queen for outstanding services to the hospitality industry.
Here she speaks with Elite Traveler about growing up on a rural farm, Gordon Ramsay’s influence and her difficult early days proving her ability in a testosterone-fueled environment.
“I didn’t want anyone to look at me as a female chef,” explains Smyth, “and think, ‘She’s weaker.’
“And for me, I put a lot of pressure on myself never to show weakness, which actually I probably didn’t have to do. I wanted it to be just about the work.”
