Royal Hawaiian Celebrates Anniversary with Paul Mayer

By Olivia Cuccaro

Can fun footwear put you in an island state of mind? The Royal Hawaiian Hotel thinks so. This year marks the hotel’s 90th anniversary and to celebrate, the property has teamed up with designer Paul Mayer to pay tribute with Royal Hawaiian-inspired shoes.

Known as the “Pink Palace of the Pacific” for its colored exterior, the Waikiki hotel’s famous facade influenced Mayer’s pink wedge heels and flats. To honor Mayer’s favorite hotel, both pairs feature a teal blue R and H, embroidered in the same font used in the original Royal Hawaiian logo.  If you’d prefer a subtler style, Mayer also created a pink-on-pink ballet flat to complement your vacation wardrobe. The Royal Hawaiian x Paul Mayer capsule collection will be available at the Pashma onsite, as well as Bloomingdale’s in Hawaii and online.

“The Royal Hawaiian has been our home away from home for more than 25 years,” said Paul Mayer in speaking to Elite Traveler.  “So, I was truly honored to commemorate their 90th anniversary with shoes.  When I thought about designing the shoes for this special edition collection, it was important to stylishly capture the essence of why I love the hotel and why I keep coming back year after year.  The shoes are Royal Hawaiian pink with a deep teal monogram emulating the hotel’s signature colors and logo, highlighting their iconic script.”

Since opening its doors in 1927, the Royal Hawaiian Hotel has established itself as a luxury destination making appearances in everything from Gidget to Mad Men. The hotel features a Malulani Pool and Helumoa Playground with expansive views Waikiki Beach to be enjoyed from a lounge chair in your private cabana. Unwind with a Lomi Lomi rhythmic Hawaiian massage at the Abhasa Spa, then learn to surf from the Royal Hawaiian Beach Boys before sipping a sunset cocktail at the oceanfront Mai Tai Bar.

For your stay, we recommend the King Kamehameha Suite which features Polynesian touches in its Hawaiian patterns and artwork. The Suite includes a master bedroom with four-poster bed and a master bathroom with a soaking tub that overlooks the ocean. The key feature of this suite is its private lanai which offers views of Diamond Head crater and is perfect for parties.

The Royal Hawaiian Hotel is located at 2259 Kalakaua Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96815. Paul Mayer x Royal Hawaiian Hotel collection will retail for approximately $220. For more information, please visit royal-hawaiian.com.
