This summer, The Goring Hotel has worked in collaboration with Hepple Gin to create The Goring Gin Garden, a living bar and gin safari right in the heart of London.
Located just around the corner from Buckingham Palace, the garden’s design has been carefully thought through. The bar is disguised in a growing hill of heather and wildflowers and is surrounded by a mini forest of botanicals, all of which bring the spirit of Hepple Gin’s Northumberland home to life. Guests are immersed in the aromas of juniper, Douglas fir, lavage, blackcurrant and bog myrtle as they choose from the menu of six cocktails including Hepple Martini, Northside Collins, Hepple 75, Cosmopolitan Daisy and a Summer Cup. There is also a menu of carefully curated gin-inspired light bites to complement the drinks.
Hepple Gin is the brainchild of Valentine Warner, TV chef and food writer, and his childhood friend Walter Riddell, produced using a unique and complex process containing no other gins. It has recently won the gold medal at the World Spirits awards in San Francisco, and so is a perfect collaborator for The Goring, who themselves been awarded both a Michelin Star and 5 stars by Forbes Magazine.
There will be Gin masterclasses and sniffological botanical safaris in the garden throughout the summer, making it well worth the visit. The garden has a history of exciting bar instillations from hosting the entirety of the West Kent Hunt, a petting zoo inspected by Her Majesty the Queen, to a beach containing 80 tons of sand, three fishing boats and a bar. The Goring Gin Garden certainly looks to live up to the hotel’s standards.
