The restaurant is not underwater, nor is the ‘submarine’ that takes you there real. Nonetheless, it is an extraordinary and unique experience dining within the vast aquarium that sets the scene for Nathan Outlaw Al Mahara. Set within the Burj Al Arab, Al Mahara is the flagship restaurant in what is arguably Dubai’s most famous hotel, and it certainly lives up to the billing. The dining room wraps around an enormous 260,000-gallon aquarium filled with fish, giving the illusion that you are dining underwater. None of the fish in the aquarium are on the menu. Instead, the Michelin-starred British chef serves a selection of dishes that emphasize the power of simplicity while the flavors of the finest ingredients speak for themselves. Guests can enjoy signature cocktails in one of the open-air, waterfront patio tables.
