In his first visit to Baja California Sur since he took office, President Enrique Peña Nieto arrived in Puerto Los Cabos on Tuesday 25 March for the official inauguration of the Secrets Puerto Los Cabos resort which opened in late 2013.
Puerto Los Cabos is a nautical – golfing – residential – master planned resort development located near to San Jose del Cabo and part of the larger resort destination phenomenon known as Los Cabos.
The president was accompanied by his wife Angelica Rivera and as part of his entourage were Mexico’s Tourism Secretary Claudia Ruiz Massieu and Juan Jose Guerra Abud, the Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources and Personal Representative of the President on the peninsula of Baja California.
They joined with the Governor of Baja California Sur, Marcos Covarrubias, the Mayor of Los Cabos, Agundez Antonio and noted business leaders. The major shareholder in the Secrets Puerto Los Cabos project, Eduardo Sánchez Navarro, received the president and participated in the traditional ribbon cutting, a symbolic opening of this new hotel.
Secrets Puerto Los Cabos, managed by AM Resorts, is a 500 room, $160 million, luxury all-inclusive hotel, surrounded by the Sea of Cortes on one side and the Jack Nicklaus/Greg Norman championship golf course on the other.
During the presentation Eduardo Sánchez Navarro spoke of the 800 jobs already generated by this investment and announced the schedule for the next phase; bringing a Ritz Carlton Residence and JW Marriott Hotel into the Puerto Los Cabos family. Both are to be located near the Secrets property and will be finished in March of 2015. By the end of 2015, Puerto Los Cabos will have four hotels including the now opened Hotel El Ganzo, a 72 room boutique luxury hotel located at the mouth of the marina.
During his speech, President Peña Nieto also thanked and acknowledged the confidence of the current Mexican and international investors and encouraged future investment to create jobs and improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of this region of Mexico as well as the promise of quality returns.
Attendees included major investors such as Alejandro Zozaya, President of AM Resorts, with over 40 hotels and nearly 15,000 rooms in operation. Among the hotel brands managed and owed by AM Resorts are: Zoetry, Secrets and Dreams. Also in attendance were Juan Gallardo, the Laviada Director, Ernesto Coppel, Francisco Bulnes, Carlos Vasquez and other senior executives of hotels located in the Los Cabos area.
