At first glance, the photographs in French photographer Renaud Marion’s latest exhibition Air Drive, look beautiful, but straightforward.
Sleek vintage cars are shot next to drab, but striking, concrete lumps. Only when you look closer do you see the wheels of the cars – including a Jaguar E-Type, Aston Martin DB5 and Chevrolet El Camino – have been stripped away, giving the impression that the cars are floating. Marion, a 39-year-old former graffiti artist cites “driving a flying car” as top of his bucket list. It is the latest in a series of slightly surreal collections from this up-and-coming, Paris-based artist.
His previous exhibition, Attraction, was a collection of photographs of wild animals in peculiar places; rhinoceroses in the center of Paris and giraffes on the steps of the Sacre Coeur. Limited edition Air Drive prints are for sale at M.A.D.Gallery in Geneva, where the collection was shown. (See opposite for current exhibition.) From $6,300 for a limited edition print.
