The terrific roar of V-12 racing engines could be heard howling in the southern Malaysian town of Sepang this weekend, as the pinnacle of racing performance and technology descended upon the Sepang International Circuit for the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo World Final.
As the smoke settled, the team from Bonaldi Motorsport, comprised of Edoardo Piscopo of Italy and Milos Pavlovic of Serbia, climbed the podium to receive the PRO Class World Final Title after winning the PRO Class European Crown on Friday. The impressive duo won Race 1 in the morning and took P2 in the afternoon, finishing behind teammate Mirko Bortolotti, whose impressive climb from P13 to P1 in the afternoon made for the most impressive comeback of the day. American Richard Antinucci, of O’Gara Motorsport, only five points behind the winners, climbed the podium twice throughout the day, scoring P2 in Race 1 and P3 to finish. In Race 1, Italian pole position setter Alberto Viberti of Autocarrozzeria Imperia took third.
In the AM Class, Welshman Jack Rattenbury’s performance was unrivaled. The top driver of Lamborghini Racing Team UK won both races with his spectacular dueling ability, followed closely by Italian Simone Pellegrinelli of DTMotorsport, Friday’s AM Class European Title-holder, in P2.
In the official Awards ceremony, Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, awarded to the three Class winners of the World Final the Trofeo Mamé. All winners also received a self-winding L-EVOLUTION Chronographe Flyback “Super Trofeo,” Caliber F185, from the main partner, Blancpain. (Watch shown below)
The upcoming season, brought to you by the two iconic luxury performance providers, will be marked by the introduction of the new Lamborghini Huaracán LP 620-2, which will share the grid with the Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo. 2014 will kick off with a race at Sebring Raceway in Florida throughout the weekend of March 13th and 14th, and if the 2014 Final at Sepang was any indication, the competition is sure to be fast and furious.
