1851 was a year of greatness for the yachting industry. A schooner, named “America”, sailed past its competition to win a race with significant margin, due to its innovative new design.
The victory resulted in the creation of the America’s Cup challenge, which has continued to evolve throughout the years to become the most prestigious of sailboat races. Luxury Swiss watch manufacturer, Ulysse Nardin, has created a US boutique exclusive limited edition timepiece that embodies a great parallel to the unique design of the original schooner.
The new Schooner chronograph sails ahead of its competition with the use of advancements in watchmaking technology. The timepiece guides with exact precision and durability, and is water resistant up to 200 meters.
Limited to 50 units, the piece has a 45.8 mm diameter case made from stainless steel. It is coated with navy blue rubber and finished with a sapphire crystal case back which enhances its ability to withstand the most challenging environments. The first three minute markers on the dial are distinguished in orange, and the element on the strap is engraved with a commemorative schooner.
The limited edition timepiece retails for $15,500 and is sold at Ulysse Nardin boutiques in Florida at the Aventura Mall, Town Center at Boca Raton and the soon-to-open New York City boutique located at 50 Central Park South.
“There is a level of precision and detail that is unprecedented in watchmaking when it comes to the way Ulysse Nardin manufactures its timepieces,” said Nelson Lucero, vice-president of sales and marketing for Ulysse Nardin.
“We strive for excellence in our invention and innovation, both of which the Schooner timepiece embodies. We are confident marine and timepiece aficionados will embrace the intricate details of the watch.”
