Ferrari celebrates 60 Years in the USA in Los Angeles

By Neharika Padala

This weekend was the perfect occasion to introduce the Hublot Big Bang “Ferrari Limited Edition 60th anniversary in North America” timepiece as Ferrari celebrated its 60th anniversary in America with a series of events to mark this historic milestone.

Swiss luxury watch brand Hublot – Official Watch and Official Timekeeper of Ferrari and Scuderia Ferrari – kicked off the weekend with an exclusive dinner on Friday, October 10, at the Petersen Auto Museum hosted by Jean-Claude Biver, Chairman of Hublot and President of the Watch Division of LVMH Group. Mr. Biver discussed the luxury industry among the Checker Flag 200 group of automobile and watch enthusiasts alike in a room adorned with classic Ferraris from the past 60 years. The event culminated with an unveiling of the Big Bang Ferrari 60th Anniversary timepiece, as Mr. Biver presented a Hublot wall clock to Bruce Meyer, Founder of Petersen Auto Museum.

The weekend continued with Ferrari’s 60th Anniversary Gala dinner and auction on Saturday, October 11, where Ferrari collectors and celebrities, including Mary J. Blige and Megan Fox, were among those who joined Piero Ferrari and Ferrari Executives to toast the history of Ferrari in America. Hublot took part in the gala auction, which also raised funds to benefit “DayBreak,” the American branch of the Italian charity whose mission for nearly 25 years has been to advance research towards a cure for rare genetic diseases.

On Sunday, October 12, Ferrari showcased its history with over 500 Ferraris in Beverly Hills and presented a parade and exhibition featuring “Sixty Fabulous Ferraris on Rodeo Drive.” Guests were able to see Ferrari’s most legendary cars, as they made their way through Beverly Hills’ famed drives under an Hublot-branded clock counter. An Hublot pop-up location allowed guests to browse the most popular Ferrari watches since the two brands first partnered in 2011.

Jean-Claude Biver, Chairman of Hublot, stated: “The collaboration between Hublot and Ferrari has reached a new level in these three years. It’s an extraordinary fusion of the fine watchmaking craftsmanship hold by Hublot and the exceptional Italian industrial achievement hold by Ferrari, and an eternal pursuit for transcendent quality and innovation. We are thrilled to celebrate Ferrari’s great history in the United States, and to honor this partnership by introducing a brand new Big Bang Ferrari timepiece here this weekend.

About the watch

The Big Bang Ferrari Limited Edition 60th anniversary in North America timepiece fuses design, materials and mechanics in way that uniquely addresses the respective DNA of Hublot and Ferrari: innovation, performance, technology and exclusivity.

First of all, a note about the colors: Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe looks to nature for inspiration in the color combinations of his watches. In the case of Big Bang Ferrari USA 60th Anniversary, the colors chosen are those of the US flag: red, white and blue.  These colors are also reflected in the American landscape, the red of the sunsets, the blue of the seas and lakes and the white of the snows that cloak mountains and cities in the winter months.

The timepiece (45.5 mm in diameter) houses a black carbon fiber case that dramatically showcases the in-house flyback chronograph UNICO movement (can be reset at any time) visible through the sapphire dial. Clad in a shade of distinctive blue, red and white, it is a nod to not just our national color but also an homage to the Ferrari prestigious signature. With just a rarity of 60 numbered timepieces available, the case back of the watch also features the discreet legendary Prancing Horse with the exclusive signature “1954-2014: Ferrari celebrates 60 Years in USA.”

The UNICO movement can be compared to the best possible engine to power a racing car, in that it was selected, then designed and developed by Hublot to power the Big Bang Ferrari. With no fewer than 330 components, the column wheel and dual horizontal coupling appear on the dial. With a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, an indexed crown (with Hublot’s ‘H’ logo automatically positioning itself to remain in line) features elongated push buttons, fixed along a rotating axis like the pedals in a car whilst carbon inserts give the case a distinctive look.

Each timepiece comes with two interchangeable straps, blue Schedoni leather stitched onto black rubber, with an innovative quick-change system inspired by the safety seatbelt mechanism. The white stitching is a nod to the signature upholstery craftsmanship typical of Ferrari. The pieces features a 72 hours of power reserve, and is water resistant to 100 metres.

The absence of superfluous accessories brings out the fusional and rational aspects of the Big Bang Ferrari 60th Anniversary in North America’s unique design, a pure expression of Hublot’s value of The Art of Fusion with innovative spirit from Ferrari.
