Originally opened in 1984 by legendary Swiss hotelier, Cézar Ritz, the St. Regis Rome is the epitome of opulence. Overlooking the Piazza della Repubblica and Baths of Diocletian in the heart of the historic city, the hotel recently completed an extensive multi-million-dollar restoration of its lavish interiors.
Entering the imposing dove-gray Belle-Époque-inspired lobby, adorned with a 15ft hand-blown glass chandelier, it is clear that no expense has been spared. The aptly named Royal Suite is the most extravagant of the 23 sumptuous suites available.
A favored spot for celebrities, monarchs and heads of state, the 3,328-sq-ft suite is ideal for entertaining. An entry hall leads into a regal living room complete with a grand piano. The room is thoughtfully decorated with classical art, an ornate gilded mirror, Louis XVI and Piedmont antique furnishings, and 17th century Aubusson rugs.
Served by a private kitchen and wine cellar, the spacious dining room boasts a Carrara marble table that comfortably seats 12. A dedicated butler, chef, concierge, chauffeur and masseuse are on-hand to cater to your every need.
In keeping with the rest of the suite, the furnishings have been carefully chosen in the master bedroom, right down to the luxury custom-made Frette linen atop the King size bed. The stunning marble bathroom has a Jacuzzi and separate tub making it the perfect place to relax and unwind. There is also an additional guest bedroom, two walk-in closets and the option to connect to the St. Regis Suite and Presidential Suite so you’ll never be short of space.
Beyond the suite, guests can soak up the hotel’s rich history and admire Mario Spinetti’s frescoes in the breathtaking Ritz Ballroom: the first public ballroom in Rome. Those with a penchant for art can also visit the world-renowned Galleria Continua which recently opened a new permanent exhibition space at the St. Regis. And if you’re venturing further afield, the hotel offers guests an iconic courtesy car – a Fiat 600 Multipla from 1962 fitted with a new zero emission electric engine – to explore Rome in style.
