When setting out on an adventure, it’s a good idea to follow in the footsteps of one of the world’s greatest. Charles Darwin visited this Australian valley in the 19th century and recorded details about the visit in his diary. The resort, found on an enormous wildlife reserve, is the world’s first hotel to achieve carbon-neutral certification by CarbonZero and so, naturally, conservation is championed here — guests can even help out with tree planting, animal assessments and wombat surveys. The 4,413-sq-ft, three-bedroom Wolgan Villa is more like a homestead with a stone-walled living area complete with a roaring fireplace and a country-style kitchen.
