Set within the former Old War Office — Winston Churchill’s headquarters during World War II — Raffles’ first hotel in the UK caused quite a stir at its opening. Following a painstaking eight-year restoration, the architectural landmark welcomed its first guests in September — the first time the iconic building has been open to the public in its 117-year history. The hotel will no doubt become one of the most glamorous addresses in London, with all the luxe trappings you’d expect from a Raffles property. The most opulent abode is The Whitehall Wing, which occupies the entire west wing of the building. Accommodating up to 12 guests, the apartment spans six unique suites, each designed by the late French architect Thierry Despont. Expect lavish marble bathrooms, rich wooden paneling and floor-to-ceiling windows revealing sweeping views of the London skyline. Elsewhere, there are three restaurants helmed by Mauro Colagreco, the chef behind France’s Michelin-starred Mirazur and a 27,000-sq-ft Guerlain Spa.
