The Suite

With a windswept cliffside setting overlooking crashing waves, it's often said that The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay looks like it's straight from the Scottish coast. It is, however, just 45 minutes south of San Francisco, perched on a secluded stretch of the Pacific.

The Caledonian comparisons don’t stop there. As dusk descends on the 14-acre resort, every evening a solitary tartan-clad bagpiper plays a salute to the sun as it fades. An incredibly atmospheric experience, guests will almost feel like they’ve been transported to the Highlands, but there is no mistaking that Californian sunset.

The ideal destination for a spa or golfing getaway, the hotel attracts a well-heeled crowd from the city as well as tourists eager to experience the natural beauty of Northern California.

Two outstanding golf courses await: the Scottish links-style Ocean Course and The Old Course, designed by Francis Duane and Arnold Palmer respectively.

The spa makes the most of the area’s natural larder with unique treatments such as the Redwood Forest Ritual, which utilizes an array of indigenous herbs and woods for a restorative cleanse and massage.

The resort’s most luxurious accommodation is The Ritz-Carlton Coastal Suite, which occupies a prime position on the resort’s coveted fifth floor. Sleeping up to 10, this 2,450-sq-ft residence has three bedrooms. The master is particularly impressive with a four-poster bed and dramatic multi-aspect ocean views.

High ceilings, a wealth of natural light and chic neutral decor with splashes of blue make for a tranquil ambiance. Ensuite bathrooms feature Carrera marble and the view from the balcony is, put simply, breathtaking.

Guests staying in the suite are granted access to The Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge and an abundance of luxury food and drink options all day long. However, do not miss the resort’s acclaimed restaurant Navio. Serving innovative seasonal dishes showcasing local produce from land and sea, the restaurant is especially lauded for its weekend brunch.
