Shoe designer Alejandro Ingelmo has opened his first eponymous boutique in SoHo. The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist and nominee is a fourth generation shoemaker.
Located on the lower level of a brownstone at 51 Wooster Street, the shop is influenced by his grandfather’s shoe store in Cuba. Large scale black-and-white photos from the ancestral store and factory are displayed alongside Ingelmo’s collections of men’s and women’s shoes. The snug 800-square-foot space, which Ingelmo compares to a cobbler’s workshop, has a spiral staircase that leads to the showroom above, while a large window showcases a courtyard and garden.
Though Ingelmo excels in towering, stealthily sexy stilettos—his 140 millimeter platform will be a store regular—he will also introduce lower heels, flat boots and exclusive women’s sneakers.
