New York, NY—Reported by Elite Traveler, the Private Jet Lifestyle Magazine
On September 14th, Hermès will debut a refurbished leather floor at its New York City flagship on Madison Avenue. The 2,000-square-foot floor, designed by Paris-based architectural agency RDAI, will offer all varieties of rawhide products from the 173-year-old Parisian house, paying homage to its origins as a leather goods company. The opening also marks the U.S. launch of Hermès’ limited-edition So-Black handbag collection, as well as the satin mini Constance.
The floor features a spiral staircase surrounded by floor-to-ceiling sliding glass cases, shelves of cherry wood and a limestone floor, in addition to reworked details from the original store on 24 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris. A leather workshop staffed with Paris-trained craftsmen will offer on-site restorations for Hermes products.
