James Hotel Now In NYC

New York City, New York – Reported by Elite Traveler, the Private Jet Lifestyle Magazine

The new hotel opens in Soho’s southwest corner at Grand and Thompson Streets in the summer of 2010. The James New York is the second property for The James Hotels brand — the Chicago location being the first -an exciting expansion all about unique art, SoHo partnerships and liberated luxury. A number of great partners, including amenities, designer employee wardrobe and a celebrity chef driven restaurant, will be announced soon. In the interim below are some of the unique elements of The James New York.

Hotel Highlights
*Urban Garden: Walk inside to get outside where the urban garden is set off the second floor lobby. The expansive outdoor space allows guests a private enclave to relax. Replete with grass and botanicals, a bar, outdoor dining spaces, meeting space with outdoor terrace access – the urban garden is a respite enclosed by industrial, concrete walls Mike – a protective shell for the hidden greenery within….

*Interiors Curator: The hotel has also selected a furniture curator whose respected residential expertise is called on for arch buff Brad Pitt’s home and Helmut Lang’s. She’s a designer who bridges continents and centuries; whose think pieces and exclusive textiles will grace common areas of The James New York. Her Soho gallery spotlights hand sculpted plywood armchairs by Chilean Sebastian Errazuriz and melted candle sea anemone lighting by Isreali Ayala Serfaty.

*Environmentally Thoughtful: Like the guests who strive to make eco-conscious choices every day –The James incorporates environmentally thoughtful materials throughout the hotel. Floors are reclaimed wood, bedding is bamboo and rugs are comprised of nettle and wood. Unique to The James New York are Keetsa eco-friendly pillows. A selection of pillows will be made available to guests. The eco-bedding brand has a local SoHo showroom.

*Rooftop Plunge: A stunning rooftop pool deck and bar graces the gorgeous 16th floor. The guest-only private dipping pool features a 360 degree unobstructed view of downtown and the west. The adjacent bar and lounge is enclosed and can be enjoyed throughout all four seasons. Incredible architectural elements such as a “halo roof” which crowns the pool make The James New York a unique addition to the New York sky-scape.

*The Hotel as Canvas: Overseen by the hotel’s Art Curator, the hotel has chosen a SoHo based non-profit artist collective, artistsspace.org, from which the hotel will select art installations to grace each of the 13 guest corridors. (artistsspace.org)

*High Design, Small Details: Even the smallest of details will be expertly designed; the hotel has brought on John Paul Phillipe (www-jpp-inc.com) an artist to create unique room number art for each of the 114 guest rooms and one of unique designer to contribute to the design and architecture of the penthouse suites.
