MANHATTAN, NEW YORK, NY – The Oak Room, New York’s fabled landmark, will re-open on October 28, 2008 in The Plaza Hotel. Michelin-starred and James Beard award-winning Chef Joel Antunes will serve classic American cuisine with global influences in his New York debut at The Oak Room and The Oak Bar. Internationally renowned architect Annabelle Selldorf has worked to imbue the landmarked historic establishment with a contemporary design aesthetic, creating a space that is sexy and chic while at the same time reminiscent of its original era.
Restaurateur Joey Allaham has leased The Oak Room and The Oak Bar from The Plaza Hotel. The young entrepreneur’s vision for The Oak Room is one that respects the history and significance of this New York institution and aims to restore its fabled name and reputation.
The Oak Room will also feature two newly created options for private dining and events – an 18-seat private dining room and an eight-seat chef’s table in the kitchen itself. A separate entrance will be available to the chef’s table, providing the ultimate in exclusivity for patrons. Chef Joel Antunes and his staff will provide custom menus for all events.__
The Oak Bar will provide a casual option for the uptown crowd that wants to see and be seen. Intended as an informal gathering place for New York’s luminaries, it will continue to cater to the power players of the city with distinctive cocktails and a separate bar menu along with the classic view of Central Park South from its windows.
