During an unusually subdued New York Fashion Week, the Sunday night fete to launch Matthew Williamson’s Meatpacking District boutique gave his legion of pretty fans good reason to celebrate. A slew of actresses and socialites from both sides of the Atlantic turned out for the occasion, including Lindsay Lohan, Heidi Klum, Joy Bryant, Poppy Delavigne and Lily Collins.
Only the second boutique from Williamson—his first resides in London—the new flagship, is a pared down space with a curving footprint that guides visitors from the double height glass entry to the walled terrarium at the boutique’s rear. The creamy white interior keeps all eyes on Williamson’s color-laden, jet set-friendly frocks, accessories and boho chic decorative elements like the bespoke de Gournay wallpaper that lines dressing room walls and rugs and cushions Williamson created in partnership with The Rug Company.
Setting his eyes on the completed product Williamson exclaimed he was “thrilled” and “very proud” of the outcome. To Williamson his latest boutique took “blood sweat and tears to create…and the girls love it. It’s about buying a garment but about having an experience beyond buying a dress, a place where they can connect with the label…this is me.”
Expect more Williamson soon, he has plans for additional standalone stores on the horizon.
