Sotheby’s Wine will offer a magnificent single-owner collection in a spectacular two-part sale to be held in New York and Hong Kong.
The Classic Cellar from a Great American Collector is comprised of approximately 9,000 bottles, with more than 1,200 large formats, ranging from Magnums to Melchiors, and including over 200 Imperials and Methuselahs. The sales are estimated to bring in excess of US$5 million/HK$40 million. The New York sale will be held on March 14th and the Hong Kong auction on April 4th.
The Hong Kong auction will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, raising the curtain on Sotheby’s Hong Kong 2009 Spring series of sales. This sale will be the launch of regular Sotheby’s wine auctions in the Asian marketplace.
Jamie Ritchie, Senior Vice President and Head of Sotheby’s North American Wine Department, commented: “The wines in these two sales come from one of the greatest collections in the world. The quality of this cellar is unrivalled, with extraordinary depth of all the world’s greatest wines in the very best vintages. As a result, we think it is appropriate to offer it in what are currently two of the most exciting wine auction markets – New York and Hong Kong. We continue our focus on offering the finest single-owner collections and look forward to developing a strong wine sales schedule in Hong Kong.”
