Revered international hotel group Mandarin Oriental is expanding its already significant European footprint even further with the recent announcement of its latest London property in partnership with Clivedale London, which is set to open in the exclusive Mayfair neighborhood in late 2022.
Joining the group’s other London hotel, which sits in an impossibly grand building backing out onto Hyde Park, Mandarin Oriental Mayfair will celebrate its prime spot on the historic Hanover Square with nods to English history that will be carefully balanced by 21st-century modern touches.
While specific design details are still being kept under wraps as construction continues, we do know that Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners (which counts London’s ‘Cheesegrater’ building and Paris’s Pompidou Center in its past projects) is leading on the exterior, while Tokyo-based studio, Curiosity will take the lead on the public interior spaces. In homage to Mayfair’s colorful history and famed residents, the interior concept is set to be ‘a hub of nature and art’, with an abundance of art by local creators and one-off furnishings.

Mandarin Oriental Mayfair will be far more boutique in comparison to its elder London sibling, with a total of just 50 guest rooms and suites, each of which will be imagined by UK-based Studio Indigo.
In true Mandarin Oriental fashion, a big focus is being put on the culinary experience at the new hotel. Korean-born chef Akira Back – of Seoul’s Michelin-starred DOSA and Vegas’s Yellowtail – will make his London debut at the hotel, with the opening of both an eponymous fine dining restaurant and a more laid-back lounge-style space.

Plans are also in place for an opulent spa, intended to act as an antidote to the fast-paced London lifestyle. The expansive space will feature a 25-meter pool, steam room and sauna, vitality pool, and a wide array of bespoke wellness treatments.

As well as the main hotel, Mandarin Oriental Mayfair will also be home to 78 branded residences (many of which have already been purchased), which will be the first integrated project of its kind in the neighborhood. Each residence will give potential owners the ideal combination of a private home with the full suite of services afforded by being adjoined to a five-star hotel.
