Monaco – Reported by Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine
Once again, Audemars Piguet has responded to the appeal from the Monaco Association Against Muscular Dystrophy (AMM) to support research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a highly debilitating neuromuscular disease. For its fourth participation in Only Watch auction, Audemars Piguet’s CEO Philippe Merk recalled “the brand’s attachment to this noble cause” and expressed the hope that “the funds raised will enable the emergence of new therapies for this disorder.” This year, the Manufacture is presenting a prestigious timepiece, the “Jules Audemars Gstaad Classic”. This one-of-a-kind model in pink gold features a case back engraved with the inscription “Audemars Piguet Only Watch – Gstaad Classic – 2011”. Its dial is inspired by the 1920s, lending a discreetly vintage touch that contributes to an aesthetic that is at once chic and sporty, classic yet contemporary. This chronograph that does far more than merely revisit history beats to the rhythm of an exclusive Audemars Piguet calibre.
The history of Audemars Piguet as a watch manufacturer tells the story of an exceptional place and exceptional individuals. The place is the Vallée de Joux in the heart of the Swiss Jura. The individuals are Jules Audemars and Edward Piguet, who associated in 1875 and thus gave rise to the Manufacture Audemars Piguet. Both were watchmakers who built on their knowledge and expertise to play a pioneering role by rising to the challenge of crafting exceptional watches in their entirety under one roof. The company has been active ever since and has remained in the hands of the founding families. Day after day, Audemars Piguet reinterprets the past with a modern vision and while making the most of technological progress.
