The most spectacular summer event in the Upper Engadine this year is the 8th edition of the St. Moritz Match Race where from August 31st to September 5th international champion skippers descend upon the renowned resort town to compete for the title of “King of the Mountains.” Badrutt’s Palace Hotel is a principal sponsor of the St. Moritz event, the Swiss stage of the World Match Racing Tour (WMRT)
The ten participating teams, experts on the seven seas, navigate the 1.6 km long and 0.6 km wide St. Moritz Lake. This demands excellent technical skill and speedy manoeuvrings from each crew, and provides onlookers with great spectator sport 6,000 feet above sea level. The additional challenge of the Maloja, a thermal wind that blows across the Engadine around midday, usually guarantees quality racing and a unique spectacle.
