New York, New York – Reported by Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine
Following successful sculptures dedicated to athletes, such as the Swimmer or the Sprinter, Lladró has unveiled Swing for the Fences, a new porcelain figure dedicated to America’s national sport, baseball.
The new piece depicts a batter at the moment of tension before the pitcher throws the ball. Carefully studied, from the grip on the bat to the position of his body and legs, his stance conveys the anticipation of a ball player ready to strike. The concentration on his face and the tension of his body showcase the detailed modeling work of the artist, and reflect the precision and finesse of the sport itself.
The piece is finished in white matte porcelain with glazed details highlighting some elements of the player’s uniform, such as the helmet, details on the gloves, and the shoes or ‘cleats’. The beige-lacquered wooden pedestal represents the batter’s box, helping to place the player in the field.
Lladró was established by brothers Juan, José and Vicente Lladró in 1953 in Valencia, Spain. Since then, the brand has grown from an artisan workshop to a firm at the forefront of contemporary porcelain design, with a presence in over 120 countries. All pieces are still made by hand at the Lladró workshop in the so-called City of Porcelain in Valencia.
