Dublin, Ireland – Reported by Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine
British sailing hero and Corum ambassador Ben Ainslie has been named World Sailor of the Year by the delegates of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF). Newly crowned Olympic champion for the fourth time in his career, Ainslie received the award at a ceremony in Dublin, Ireland on November 6th. The ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award is the highest accolade in the world of international competitive sailing.
2012 Olympic champion and thus the holder of four Olympic gold medals and an Olympic silver, Ben Ainslie is the most successful sailor in Games history. He was now claimed the Sailor of the Year award for the fourth time, after previous wins in 1998, 2002 and 2008.
“It is a huge honor, especially for everyone who has helped me,” said Ainslie. “There is a whole team behind me made up of families, friends, coaches and partners, and who enabled me to reach this gold. I’m also proud of being part of an incredible line-up of sailors who were nominated for this prize.”
Corum CEO and shareholder Antonio Calce said: “I’m delighted for Ben Ainslie, who richly deserves this title of Sailor of the Year. We at Corum are really proud to have two exceptional sailing ambassadors who represent the brand with flying colors and contribute to its international influence. The nomination of Ben Ainslie and Loïck Peyron for the Sailing Awards, and now Ben’s victory, highlight the performances of these exceptional sailors.”
Last Thursday, Ainslie attended the SalonQP watch show in London where Corum’s Director of Public Relations, Marie-Alexandrine Leibowitch presented him with the Admiral’s Cup Legend 42 Tourbillon Micro-Rotor.
