The name Breguet is synonymous with its strong commitment to culture, as evidenced by its various sponsorship activities and numerous cultural events. The same spirit of patronage in favor of the arts and culture had prompted Nicolas G. Hayek, President and CEO of Montres Breguet, to promote a temporary exhibition of Breguet watches at the Louvre Museum in the heart of Paris.
From 25 June – 7 September 2009, visitors to the Louvre will have the chance to discover the art of watch making at its apogee, evidenced by unique precision timepieces, combining the genius, virtuoso techniques and avant-garde aesthetics of Abraham Louis Breguet (1747 – 1823).
Curated by Marc Bascou, from Musée de Louvre Department of Decorative Arts and Emmanuel Breguet, a historian specializing in the works of Breguet, at Montres Breguet S.A., the exhibition brings together an extraordinary variety of watches by Breguet, including items from the Louvre’s own collection and from the Breguet Museum. The exhibition will also be displaying a number of remarkable items on loan from private collections and prestigious institutions such as the British Royal Collections, the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris, the Kremlin Museum and the Swiss National Museum.
A special launch event was held on 23 June 2009 to celebrate the grand opening of this exceptional exhibition. After a private tour of Salle de La Chapelle, guests were feted to an exclusive dinner held under the pyramid of the Louvre.
