Geneva, Switzerland – Reported by Elite Traveler, the Private Jet Lifestyle Magazine
Chopard has unveiled an 85 carat diamond plucked from the legendary mines of Golconda in India. In the annals of gemology, the most celebrated stones have come from these Indian mines, namely the Koh-i-Noor which is studded in the Crown of Queen Elizabeth and once adorned the person of Marie-Antoinette. This stone’s almost mythical rarity and purity place it in the IIA class, a category that accounts for only one percent of all diamonds.
The raw, uncut stone, 85.28 carats to be exact, will be polished into a coruscating gem by skilled artisans in the Swiss jeweler’s renowned workshops. Chopard’s Co-President and Creative Director Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele will then design a suitably spectacular frame.
“I love gems,” says Gruosi-Scheufele. “I have seen a lot of them in my career, but the beauty of this particular one surpasses most others, and it is truly exceptional.”
