Lucerne, Switzerland – Reported by Elite Traveler, the Private Jet Lifestyle Magazine
On January 1, 2011, Diego Benaglio, the Swiss national team goalkeeper, was appointed as an ambassador for Carl F. Bucherer. He is the perfect example of someone with ambition and self-confidence, who can make big dreams come true. Like the independent Lucerne watchmaker he demonstrates the uncompromising determination to go his own way.
At 27 years of age, Diego Benaglio has already achieved a great deal. His childhood dream to become a footballer became a reality in 1999, when he received an offer to join Grasshopper, the Zurich football club. Next came a three-year contract with VfB Stuttgart. When he was 23 years old he transferred to the “Desportivo Nacional” club, who play in the top Portuguese football league, a move which seemed surprising to outsiders, but for him was extremely worthwhile. In 2008, Diego Benaglio went to play in the German national league and a year later, his team VfL Wolfsburg won the German championship.
At the same time, Diego Benaglio was selected by the then national team Trainer as the main goalkeeper for the 2008 European Championships in Switzerland and Austria. During Switzerland’s first match of the 2010 Football World Cup in South Africa against world champions Spain, he kept his goal intact. This enabled Switzerland to gain its first ever win against Spain and also its only victory in last year’s World Cup series.
A strong character is required to be able to enjoy such exceptional sporting success. Mental strength, the right technique, an iron discipline and the continual pursuit of perfection are the qualities, which distinguish Diego Benaglio in his capacity as footballer and which he shares with watchmaker Carl F. Bucherer.
For this reason, the Lucerne watch Manufacture, Bucherer Montres S.A., is convinced about its cooperation with its new representative. “Diego Benaglio embodies the values of our Carl F. Bucherer brand in an impressive way. His passion for what he does, his continual striving for technical perfection, and the determination to go his own way are the same qualities, which we also have to demonstrate constantly in the assembly of our top quality timekeepers”, confirms Sascha Moeri, CEO of Bucherer Montres S.A..
