Ever wonder how a fashion designer comes up with themes, looks, and new combinations? Take a step into the mind of Kris Van Assche, creative director of Dior Homme, at his multimedia contemporary art exhibit on display at the Hyères Festival. Taking place in Hyères, France, now through June 7, 2009, the international exhibition brings together a select group of young designers and photographers to observe trends and serve as a global launching pad for new works and ideas.
Van Assche’s piece, the Picaflor Exhibition, combines fashion, art, photography, and nature – all influences swirling in the designer’s creative conscience. Each of the 12 futuristic metal flowers showcased represents a different aspect of Van Assche’s life and design process – a small television screen within each rotates photographs of each idea. From runway photos to portraits of model muses to venerated artists, the exhibit is a peek inside Van Assche and a brilliant manifestation of his ability to produce thought-provoking art, not just admired clothing.
The Picaflor Exhibition is on display at the Villa Noailles. Admission is free for all exhibits. Visit villanoailles-hyeres.com.
