Modernity meets femininity this fall when Salvatore Ferragamo and Yohji Yamamoto come together, for the first time, in a collection of eight, limited-edition women’s shoes for Fall Winter 2009/2010.
Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto’s typical deconstructed lines and plastic shapes will blend with Florentine designer Salvatore Ferragamo’s classic feminine creations and fine craftsmanship.
“The first Ferragamo’s model I was interested in was their standard model, Vara,” Yohji Yamamoto said in a press release. “They are so simple but fit perfectly to everyone’s feet. I was also interested in their femininity, which is so far from my creations.”
Together, the iconic Vara pump base will be combined with expressive shapes and clean lines to create a lace-up and sneaker. Even the packaging will mesh—Yamamoto’s red and black print will take over the shopping bag and box while Ferragamo’s signature red will be the inside of the shoes.
“The partnership with Yohji Yamamoto has been a great source of creative inspiration for us,” James Ferragamo, Director of the brand’s Women’s Leather Goods Department, said in the press release. “We are extremely proud to be sharing our technical and design background with an artist who has innovated the aesthetic canons of fashion today.”
The Salvatore Ferragamo for Yohji Yamamoto mini-collection will be available in July at Yohji Yamamoto boutiques and select Ferragamo stores worldwide. Visit salvatoreferragamo.it.
