Award-winning hotel Six Senses Zighy Bay has announced a new luxury retreat exclusively led by The DJ Dispensary.
Between September 20 and 27 and again on December 6-13, guests can book a four or six-night retreat at the resort with world-renowned DJs Matty Wainwright, Brendon P and Stephen Day.
Successful completion of the retreat is celebrated with an inaugural solo-spin session during the limited-entry ‘Farthest From Earth’ event, which takes place at the mountain-top restaurant Sense on the Edge.
Set against the picturesque backdrop of Oman’s Musandam Peninsula, Six Senses Zighy Bay hosts the inaugural DJ Dispensary retreat in the Middle East. For the first time at the resort, guests will have the opportunity to learn how to spin their favourite tunes with private hands-on lessons. Groups are exclusive, with a ration of five pupils to one DJ tutor.
Executive assistant manager of the resort, Guillaume de Lasteyrie, is among many excited to welcome the retreat.
“This is unlike anything we have yet offered our guests,” he said. “Music is integral to our senses, and an exceptional experience such as this DJ retreat is exactly in line with the unique nature of our resort. We aim to attract guests who may not have considered us before; those who have been waiting for the right sensory journey.”
DJ Dispensary ‘Head Honcho’ Matty Wainwright said of the collaboration: “Following our success in Singapore, the Maldives, Bali and Thailand, Oman fits perfectly into the mix.
“Six Senses as a brand is uniquely in harmony with our philosophy, and the isolation of Zighy Bay will provide an unparalleled DJ experience for our guests.”
Matty brings 14 years of international experience, including Singapore; Mumbai; Abu-Dhabi; London; Ibiza and France. He has marked these experiences by playing alongside class acts such as James Lavelle (UNKLE), DJ Yoda, David Holmes, Jose Padilla, Pete Gooding, The Unabombers, Norman Jay and Rob Da Bank, among others.
DJ tutor Brendon P has enjoyed spinning success since the 1980s throughout New York City, as well as an eight-year residency at the globally renowned, Zouk Club in Singapore.
Stephen Day is the third DJ tutor, complete with super-club experience from the newly-opened Ministry of Sound, Singapore in 2005, where he remained resident for four years. Since then his DJ travels have taken him to Supperclub, and alongside legends such as Pete Tong, Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Tony Humphries, DJ Spinna and Derrick Carter, to name but a few.
The ultimate luxury DJ retreat offers six nights and five days of morning group tutorials and afternoon one-on-one lessons with Matty, Brendon or Stephen; during which new skills are developed on the decks and in the privacy of the DJ training HQ.
Summing up the ‘DJ’ as we know it: progression timelines from 7” records of the 1970s to the mp3s we use today; beach screening of the documentary, ‘Maestro’, which chronicles the early years of the New York City underground DJ/ Dance club culture; equipment familiarization; Sunset-Mix dhow cruise; daily sunset session catch ups and more.
Additional pampering and excitement is on hand with an adventurous arrival by paraglide, a whimsical spherical molecular cooking class, daily hands-on Mixology courses in Zighy Bar, and a Deep-House Hot Rock Therapy at the award-winning Six Senses Spa.
Take-home memories are plentiful with the Epic DJ Dispensary Survival Bag, which includes a tote bag, t-shirt, CD wallet, headphones, course handbook, X-Mini speaker, and a copy of the book, ‘Last Night a DJ Saved My Life’.
The adjusted four night, three-day DJ retreat consists of morning group tutorials and afternoon one-on-one lessons; equipment familiarization; invitations to all DJ Dispensary night time activities such as the ‘Maestro’ beach screening; daily Sunset Session catch ups; Sunset-Mix dhow cruise, and daily hands-on Mixology courses in Zighy Bar.
Nightly accommodation for either retreat is included in the resort’s authentic Omani-styled villas with a private pool. Breakfast and dinner in the resort’s restaurants further enhance the restricted hideaway charm, and the resort’s ample weekly activity schedule offers a multitude of experiences in-between beach lounging.
Exclusive benefits for resort guests during the week are also on-hand. Guests can book private two-hour sessions with the DJs during the week as well as enjoying nightly sundowner spin-session in Zighy Bar at 6-8pm, while enjoying tapas with mock and cocktails from the resort’s 2,500 square-meter Organic Garden.
