OUT OF AFRICA Singer Kylie Minogue covered 27 countries, 55 cities and over 52,000 miles during her Aphrodite concert tour. But during the final stretch of her 150-day journey, which ended in South Africa, the Grammy winner opted not to simply relax in her luxurious accommodations at The Palace of the Lost City at Sun City but instead go on safari at the five-star Shepherd’s Tree Game Lodge. While looking for Big Five wildlife during an afternoon game drive at Pilanesberg Game Reserve, the lodge’s assistant GM Peter Breedveld stopped the jeep, hopped out andbegan a tutorial on elephant dung, explaining that some believe it can be smoked to cure a headache. Minogue gamely grabbed the dung with both hands so she could pose for photos with it. Afterward, she and her crew visited the lodge, where cocktails awaited in the cigar lounge. Minogue gave 12 concert tickets to Shepherd’s Tree staffers and Tweeted, “Thanks for the safari ride Peter!! Giraffe, hippos, rhino, monkeys, zebras and more. Beautiful South Africa!!”

THE GODDESS WEARS VALENTINO She walked the red carpet at the Academy Awards in an elegant Valentino gown and sat in the coveted front row for Valentino’s fall/winter 2011/2012 couture show in Paris—and this summer Anne Hathaway even spent a long weekend on the yacht belonging to Valentino Garavani, who founded the fashion house and retired in 2008. Hathaway, who stars as Catwoman in next summer’s highly anticipated blockbuster The Dark Knight Rises, escaped to Capri with boyfriend Adam Shulman and enjoyed the comforts of T.M. Blue One, a 152-foot floating palace built by Picchiotti with room to accommodate up to 10 guests.

FAMILY TIES Actress and television personality Lisa Rinna celebrated her birthday in San Diego with her actor husband Harry Hamlin and daughters Delilah Belle and Amelia Gray. After checking into a luxurious Rock Star Suite at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego, Rinna enjoyed a relaxing massage at the hotel’s RockSpa. “I loved the spa—very lovely, private and chic,” she said. Later, the family dined at famed Japanese restaurant Nobu, where she received a toasted coconut and fresh passion fruit cream cake with buttercream frosting emblazoned with “Happy Birthday Lisa.” While in San Diego, the family took in several of the city’s most famed attractions, including a guided tour of the world-famous San Diego Zoo.
