New York, New York – Reported by Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine
Harry Winston kicked off the holiday season with a history-making display of gems that honored the legacy of the iconic brand’s founder and namesake. The New York City Fifth Avenue flagship boutique hosted “The Court of Jewels,” an invitation-only exhibition of jewelry and individual stones with a total value of over $1 billion, and touted as the largest single showing of fine jewelry ever. It was a thrilling collection of treasures, from a vintage early-20th century tiara to legendary stones like the Star of Bengal ruby and Lesotho I diamond, plus unset, rare gemstones—green, pink, and blue diamonds, a paperweight-sized aquamarine, brilliant Paraiba tourmalines—awaiting placement in brand new designs. Celebrities attending the event, Halle Berry, Rachel Roy and Hilary Rhoda among many, ceded their customary place as the center of attention in any room to the glittering spectacle.
The festivities culminated with the unveiling of the Hope Diamond in a spectacular new setting created to celebrate Harry’s Winston’s donation of the gem to The Smithsonian Institution 50 years ago. The 45.52-carat fancy blue diamond with a fabled history and owners including Marie Antoinette and Evalyn Walsh McLean, now receives 7 million visitors annually at its permanent home in the National Gem Collection, thanks to Winston’s generosity. And the spirit of generosity continues, the house has just launched an initiative to donate 5% or pre-tax profits to support educational causes.
