Honeymooners Swoon For Mexico

By Pardhasaradhi Gonuguntla

Mexico City, Mexico – Reported by Elite Traveler, the Private Jet Lifestyle Magazine

While most honeymooners head south for Mexico’s perfect beaches and pristine waters, that’s not all there is to see and do. With decades of experience in wedding and honeymoon planning, Mexico wants to woo the world as its new capital of romance! Exotic cities, luxurious spas, rich traditions, vibrant history, friendly locals and a multitude of bonding experiences, make the allure of Mexico hard to resist when it comes to L-O-V-E. And some of the world’s most popular celebrities are taking notice. Mexico has already had success in attracting several high-profile stars to its gorgeous locales for romantic honeymoon getaways. In fact, US Magazine declared Cabo San Lucas and Punta Mita as two of its “A-List Honeymoon Destinations,” for hosting couples such as actress Hilary Duff and hockey player beau Mike Comrie, as well as reality starlet Khloe Kardashian and L.A. Laker hubby Lamar Odom. It’s no surprise that Mexico was the only destination mentioned twice on the list, because when it comes to honeymoons, romance and weddings, Mexico’s got skills.

One of the secrets of a great honeymoon is moving beyond being entertained and engaging in those activities that let you work and play together. Because when it comes to romance, it’s more than just being together, it’s doing together. Learn a new skill together like cooking or dancing; have an adventure; live Mexican history; and then, after the day is over, relax at the spa. Mexico is your playground to reconnect, indulge and fall in love all over again.

Just Dance!

Cha cha, rumba, salsa and samba to your heart’s content at IH Riviera Maya, where newlyweds can learn the art of Latin dance. You can learn the basic steps with an expert dance tutor, and then show off your skills in Playa del Carmen’s hottest nightclubs. Dance classes take place three times per week and students can enroll for one to four weeks.

If you decide to honeymoon near Cuernavaca and are hankering to learn some traditional Mexican dances, the Intercultural Spanish School is a great place to learn! The Latin American dance classes are taught by certified Mexican Dance Federation members who have devoted years to the art of dance.

They specialize in a range of dances, including salsa, merengue, danzon, cha cha, cumbia, and other favorites. Students will learn the physical aspect, as well as the traditions and history behind Latin American dance.

Adventure in Every Turn

Throw on your snorkeling gear and head to El Cid La Ceiba Beach in Cozumel, where adventure awaits you and your honey! You can conquer the waves on jet skis, bounce along on a banana boat ride, or enjoy some of the best scuba and snorkeling on the island at the resort’s certified Babieca Dive Center, where you can explore Cozumel’s vibrant coral reefs. Honeymooners can also experience the resort’s brand new eco park, Fly High Adventures. Here, adventurous couples can zip-line, discover fascinating jungle locations and mesmerizing ocean views! If you are still craving more fun, why not hike Chankanaab National Park or the Punta Sur Ecological Reserve? Couples will be mesmerized by the pristine jungle landscapes and lagoons teeming with indigenous wildlife. For more information, please Click Here.

Old School Hideaways

For a romantic honeymoon which feels more like staying at a private mansion, try one of Mexico’s newly renovated haciendas. Once the centers of economic activity in Mexico, the thriving haciendas of yesteryear are now taking center stage, with many being restored and converted into luxury boutique hotels.

Belonging to the Mexico Boutique Hotels collection, the magnificent Hacienda Xcanatun – Casa de Piedra, meaning “tall stone house” in Maya, was originally constructed in the mid-18th century as a classic hacienda dedicated to agriculture and livestock. Its colorful history includes being owned by a notable local family before becoming one of the most important henequen-producing haciendas in the region. Located minutes from the center of Merida, Xcanatun had fallen to ruins, but after five years of restoration by the Ruz family, this incomparable hacienda lives again, featuring 18 suites, two pools and nine acres of blossoming gardens showcasing the local flora.

Located in the northern state of Sonora, Hacienda de los Santos is a unique honeymoon locale, allowing couples to take a step back into Mexico’s history books. After a 15 year renovation, the 17th century award-winning hacienda is a must see, located just two blocks from the main plaza in Alamos. The hacienda is made up of three Spanish colonial mansions (including the town’s sugar mill) connected by stone walkways, brick passageways, tunnels and footbridges set amid six lushly landscaped acres. A vast array of antiques and original artwork meticulously grace the estates and add to the magical ambience. Today, 23 guestrooms, suites and villas, La Dulce Vida Spa, the Hacienda Theater, Santiago’s Bistro, Agave Cafe & Galeria, Zapata’s Cantina, four elegant dining rooms, three pools and five fountains are located at the hacienda.

The Starwood Luxury Collection has recently bought several haciendas in Yucatan State and Campeche State, including the Hacienda Temozon, a 16th century dream, just an hour’s drive south of Merida and close to the Mayan ruins of Uxmal. The fabulously red, 26-room hacienda is the ideal getaway for newlyweds seeking luxury, comfort and privacy. Also notable are Haciendas San Jose, Santa Rosa and Uayamon, all close to Merida. Just 35 minutes from Cuernavaca in the state of Morelos, is the gorgeous Hacienda San Gabriel de las Palmas, whose history dates back to 1529 when Hernan Cortes ordered its construction. Since then it has served as a sugar plantation and Emiliano Zapata’s main headquarters during the Mexican Revolution. While at the hacienda, couples can learn about the local history through various culture tours. Topics range from pre-Hispanic and Mestiza food to archaeology and architecture to literature. The hacienda also offers tours through historic cities such as Cuernavaca, Tepoztlan and Taxco.
