Hotel Lone last night won the award for Newbuild Hotel at the European Hotel Design Awards. Opened in July 2011, Croatia’s first member of Design Hotels™ was described by the judging panel as “a stunning piece of architecture on the Istrian coastline” and a “stand-out winner”. Just under 200 entries vied for this year’s awards, with Hotel Lone competing against four other hotels for the Newbuild category.
Simon Ford, Chair of the judges, described Hotel Lone as, “A stunning piece of architecture on the Istrian coastline in Croatia that not only makes the most of its location but enhances it.
“The judges felt this was a bold statement that worked well with the landscape, created many interesting and thoughtful spaces and played with the numerous interactions of plane, light and volume notably in the public areas. For a relatively young team of designers and architects inexperienced in hospitality design this was a stand-out winner for the judging panel.”
Hotel Lone defines itself as a leisure and conference design hotel. With an exterior design inspired by the traditional Croatian resorts of the 70s, the hotel is the result of a project led by young Croatian architects, artists and designers. It is also the first five-star design hotel in the region of Istria. In keeping with the hotel’s efforts to showcase Croatian creativity and to maintain its status as a “design hotel”, Hotel Lone has its own in-house Art Director, Andrea Cerin.
With a peaceful location on the Mediterranean, Hotel Lone is situated within walking distance from the sea, the Zlatni rt Forest Park and the old quarter of Rovinj. The hotel has 248 rooms, a variety of restaurants, one of the largest spas in the area and ten multi-purpose conference rooms.
Now in its 15th year, the European Hotel Design Awards is the only international hotel event to focus entirely on hotel design, development and architectural excellence.
