Los Angeles, California – Reported by Elite Traveler, the Private Jet Lifestyle Magazine
We are not just speaking of high-powered supercars, luxurious vessels, or air travel, but the world’s finest timepieces, and how all of these former industries have had considerable influences on the extraordinary mechanical wonders one wears on the wrist.
Some of the most impressive designs of automobiles, yachts, and air travel have inspired some of the most revered and prestigious watches in the world; this is the awe-inspiring union of time with engineering and craftsmanship. From complex machines or the most complicated mechanisms, to elaborate designs and highly customized engines, this beautifully photographed edition of “Driven by Design” is all about the result of the mingling of these two worlds, with some of the miniature machines worn on the wrist have as much technology, craftsmanship, and even cost as the vehicles of travel that it is inspired by.
John Simonian is recognized as a visionary, an innovative businessman, and an ambassador to the world of horology. Both his father and his great uncle worked in the watch business, and they gave Simonian an insider’s view to the world of watch making at a very young age. Throughout his 35-year career, John has worked in all aspects of the Swiss watch industry. Twenty-two years ago he founded luxury watch retailer Westime, which specializes in offering the most exclusive and complicated watch collections as well as highly sought-after Swiss timepieces. Ten years ago he began introducing some of the watch industry’s most unique timepieces to new markets. Today he represents such brands as Richard Mille, Greubel Forsey and Urwerk for the Americas.
Before he established two Westime boutiques in Los Angeles…before he became regional CEO for some of the most cutting-edge watch brands…John Simonian knew he would always love complicated watches. His passion for timepieces and the high-performance vehicles that often inspired their designs is the subject of his first book, “Timepiece Machines,” published by Tectum Publishers.
The 304-page hardcover book includes more than 200 images of elaborate watches, supercars, megayachts and jets. Text is provided in English, French and Dutch. It is available now from booksellers worldwide, with a cover price of $50.
