JW Currens Wins at the 2010 AGTA Spectrum Awards

By Pardhasaradhi Gonuguntla

Multi-award winner and fine jewelry designer JW Currens again swept the AGTA Spectrum Awards with his exhilarating collection of rare, one-of a kind gemstones and jewelry design. The AGTA Spectrum Awards, considered the most respected and prestigious creative award for the design industry, has been honoring artistic excellence for over two decades. For the first time in the history of the competition, two pieces tied for Best in Show, both of which were part of the JW Currens Collection.

“Being such an integral part of the AGTA Spectrum Awards is a thrill and a great privilege. I love the challenge of transforming rare and exotic gemstones into wearable pieces of art. My designs transcend from happy childhood moments to personal triumphs and tribulations,” said James Currens.

The two pieces that tied for the honor of Best in Show were ‘A Quiet Moment’ and ‘The Empress’ Ring. A Quiet Moment is an emerald and diamond brooch made up of 66.15 carats of emeralds, and has 5.05 carats of white diamonds. Fancy pinks, greens, blues and yellow diamonds total 6.82 carats. This magnificent piece, which took nearly three months to manufacture, is handmade, en-tremblant and set in silver.

The Empress Ring displays the phenomenon of color change and is an impressive collection of sometimes green, sometimes purple color-change garnets, set with 6.4-carats of oval rainbow moonstones and offset by an extremely rare 15.58-carat, pear-shaped Indian moonstone.

Third place in the Classical Category went to JW Currens Dee Vine Ruby Bracelet. A total of 19.88 carats of unheated Burmese Rubies are set in a platinum vine-like design, with 12.78-carats of white diamonds. Platinum Honors also went to JW Currens for the Orbit Collections Summer Ring, which is a cluster of natural spesssartite, 15.83 carats worth, and a 5.37-carat rare pink spinel.

All these accolades come close on the heels of JW Currens already impressive list of award winning pieces. To date James Currens has won a total of 12 AGTA Spectrum Awards and four MJSA Vision Awards.
