London, UK – Reported by Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine
A family run restaurant in the heart of Soho, Mele e Pere serves authentic Italian cuisine in a warm, trattoria setting. A good mix of the classic and modern, the menu uses high quality, fresh ingredients and changes daily. Open from lunchtime continuously into late evening, every day of the week, Mele e Pere is great for a quick lunch or pre-theater bite, or a hearty feast in true Italian style.
Starters are served as small sharing plates or aperitivi, with highlights including eggplant parmigiani, arancini (breadcrumb-coated rice balls) and deep fried squid with smoked aioli. It’s tempting to order a lot of these, but you’d be wise to save room for pasta and a main course. Among the pastas, the bigoli with palourde clams and Tropea red onions stands out, as does the potato gnocchi with Italian black truffle and white truffle oil. Main courses include braised rabbit with black olives and salsa verde, sea trout a la plancha with girolles and red chicory, and roasted wild duck with braised savoy cabbage and quince purée.
From the desserts, special mention should be made of the tiramisu and the pannacotta with poached pears. To drink you’ll find a generous, Italian-focused wine list, as well as homemade vermouth and cocktails like the A VenEton mess with Chamberyzette strawberry Vermouth, limoncello Meletti and double crème cassis. A range of sweet wines and digestivi (liqueurs) completes the picture nicely.
