Los Cabos, Mexico – Reported by Elite Traveler, the Private Jet Lifestyle Magazine Some travelers select Los Cabos as their destination of choice for its impressive array of world-class resorts, luxurious spas, and championship golf courses. While others, such as passionate anglers, see “Land’s End” in a different light; as a sport fishing mecca due to the aquatic wonderland available in the azure waters of the Sea of Cortes. With a deep rooted connection to the sport, Los Cabos hosts several top fishing tournaments each year that attract competitors from across the globe and the 12th Annual Los Cabos Billfish Tournament, scheduled to take place from October 12-16, 2010, will commence the fishing season in the region.
“The Los Cabos Convention & Visitors Bureau is honored to once again host and sponsor the 12th Annual Los Cabos Billfish Tournament,” said Gonzalo Franyutti, President of the Los Cabos CVB. “Each year, we enjoy welcoming back so many of our long-time friends to Los Cabos, one of the world’s most renowned sport fishing destinations. We wish all teams the best of luck and look forward to an exciting tournament.”
Teams will compete for cash prizes that are awarded to the top scoring three teams as well as to the teams that catch the largest fish in three eligible billfish species. In addition to winning a portion of the purse, which is approaching $1 million, the winners receive an invitation to represent the tournament at the IGFA Offshore World Championship, May 8 – 13, 2011. A kickoff party and an awards banquet, to be held at the official host hotel – Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa – are also scheduled during this year’s tournament. To reserve a room at the tournament’s host resort, participants may call 1-800-344-3349 and mention the tournament to receive a discounted room rate.
Los Cabos’ commitment to environmental conservation is apparent through the tournament’s strictly enforced CPR rule – catch, photograph and release. This important policy, in addition to the abundant marine life brimming the waters of the Sea of Cortes, allows tournament participants to enjoy Los Cabos’ spectacular conditions each year.
