La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland – Reported by Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine
Swiss watch manufacturer Girard-Perregaux has produced a limited run of 50 Tourbillon with three gold bridges. Characterized by a round case carved out of pink gold, the iconic watch goes back 152 years and represents the pinnacle of Girard-Perregaux craftsmanship.
Based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, Girard-Perregaux was founded by watchmaker and goldsmith Jean-François Bautte in 1791, and since 2011 has been part of the Sowind group—a subsidiary of PPR. Bautte created a manufacturing company in Geneva grouping, for the first time ever, all the watch making facets of the time—starting from the engineering of the watch all the way to the final hand assembly and hand polishing of each watch.
In 1852, watchmaker Constant Girard founded the Girard & Cie Firm in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The Girard-Perregaux brand was born in 1856 after Girard married Marie Perregaux. In 1906, Constant Girard-Gallet, who took control of the company from his father, took over the Bautte House and merged it with Girard-Perregaux & Cie. Since then, the brand has developed its Haute Horlogerie under the lead of the Macaluso family, and has approximately 80 patents in the watch-making domain.
Girard-Perregaux designs, develops and manufactures a large collection of Quartz watch making movements, of which the Tourbillon with three gold bridges is the emblematic piece. Bringing together watchmakers, engineers, movement decorators and polishers, Girard-Perregaux oversees the complete watchmaking process from the assembly stages to the final encasement.
