Micato Offers Bespoke Holiday Safaris

By Pardhasaradhi Gonuguntla

NEW YORK, NY – Micato Safaris’ (www.micato.com) Bespoke Holiday Safari offers travelers the opportunity to experience a once-in-a-lifetime holiday celebration on the plains of East Africa. Incorporating several of Kenya’s most exclusive and unique camps and lodges, private charter transport, and special holiday feasts and activities, this special itinerary is suitable for a couple wishing to enjoy a romantic private holiday or for the whole family to experience together. The Bespoke Holiday Safari starts at $30,800 per person, double occupancy and is 15 days, December 20, 2008 through January 3, 2009.

The holiday adventure begins in Nairobi, where guests will overnight at the historic Norfolk Hotel. Guests will visit the famed Daphne Sheldrick Wildlife Orphanage and the Nairobi Giraffe Centre.

Next, a private charter will whisk guests to Wilderness Trails in Lewa Downs, one of Kenya’s early ranches and home to the Craig family since 1924. Abundant game viewing abounds on this wildlife-rich conservancy, where travelers have the option of venturing into the wild on horseback or by camel to spot lions, leopards, zebras and more. Following each game drive, guests will be spoiled by gourmet meals prepared by skilled chefs using home-raised livestock and fresh produce from the ranch’s 5-acre organic garden.

On Christmas Eve Day, guests will depart for the Maasai Mara National Reserve and the Africa of their imagination-here, the panoramas are vast, and the game viewing is considered the finest in Kenya. Guests will stay at Governors’ Il Moran Camp. After a day of game viewing, guests will enjoy a Christmas Eve feast and will be serenaded by Maasai warriors performing traditional Swahili songs.

A Christmas Day hot air balloon safari will provide an exhilarating experience as guests float only a few hundred feet above the herds before touching down for an elaborate bush breakfast-complete with made-to-order omelets and pineapple-and-champagne cocktails.

An afternoon of game viewing promises sightings of elephants, giraffe, buffalo, cheetah, black rhino, and more, while Christmas Night is celebrated with an elegant dinner in the bush, complete with hanging lanterns, oriental rugs, china and silver, not to mention exquisite cuisine! Maasai dancers emerge from the bush to provide an entertaining evening of song and dance, and seemingly infinite stars provide the perfect canopy for this magical, memorable evening.

The next day, a flight excursion to Lake Victoria takes guests over hundreds of Maasai villages. From their base at Rusinga Island they can tour the shoreline by boat, trying to spot some of the 100 species of native birds, or they can try trolling for Nile Perch alongside the locals.

Tarangire National Park, home to 3,000 elephants, is next, with an overnight at the Tarangire Treetops Lounge. Then it’s a private charter to Lake Manyara, where guests will board their private transfer bound for Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

After a morning game drive, a private charter transfers guests to Singita Grumeti Reserves, 400,000 acres of unrivalled, pristine wilderness in the Serengeti. The grand, awe-inspiring Sasaskwa Lodge, reminiscent of a 1920’s English manor home with its sweeping verandahs, luxurious suites and impeccable service, will be the setting for a special New Year’s Eve celebration.
